Photo by DARRELL JAMES Junior running back Chase Murphy (3) helped Cedar Creek High take a 33-20 home victory over Plain Dealing this past weekend. Murphy and his Cougars’ teammates have a Friday night date with No. 1 Class 1A Louisiana Sports Writers Association ranked Ouachita Christian High in Monroe on Friday night.

Cedar Creek goes for first place. Ruston High tries to stay alive. That’s the situation confronting city schools this week as the 2012 regular season nears a close.

On Thursday night, the Bearcats (3-5, 0-2) play the first of two crucial contests in District 2-5A when they travel to Natchitoches to play Natchitoches Central at Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University.

Ruston needs a win against the Chiefs, plus a victory in its final regular season game at home on Nov. 2 against Pineville.
