Affecting countless people, from the loss of productivity at the workplace, to health care expenses, to the long lasting emotional scars left on its victims, the consequences of domestic violence infiltrate entire communities. Although it’s puzzling to some why a person would stay in an abusive situation, advocates for the abused have asserted that victims may feel as if they lack the needed resources to start a life without the abuser. However, they add there are many options available to those who seek help, and understanding those options may save a life and stop the perpetual cycle of domestic abuse.
