Talton’s name is right fit at facility

Tech honors legacy of former powerlifting coach

Unveiling the plaque carrying his name was Wayne Parker, the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors chairman during homecoming ceremonies this past weekend. Talton guided the powerlifting program to 11 men’s and 11 women’s national championships 

He’s a living legend with a legacy that will continue to thrive at Louisiana Tech.

Billy Jack Talton, professor emeritus and powerlifting coach at Louisiana Tech from 1974 to 2001, had his name remembered by powerlifters in the future, as the fitness room in the Maxie Lambright Intramural Sports Center was named after him during homecoming ceremonies this past weekend.

The dedication of the new swimming pools and the honoring of Talton took place in the complex’s atrium.
