Sewer line replaced on Bittersweet
The city of Ruston is upgrading about 8,000 feet of old sewer lines using a West Monroe contractor and modern technology.
City Water Director Richard Aillet said the sewer replacement project will replace all or portions of clay sewer lines on Bittersweet, Broadway, LaMesa, Robinette, Beech, Walnut, Magnolia and Ventura Streets.
“Clay pipes have a joint every four feet and everywhere you have a joint, tree roots try to get in for nutrients,” Aillet said. “Fine root hairs eventually get into the pipe and keep growing until eventually, they blow the pipe out.”
