State Sen. Bob Kostelka, R-Monroe, and state Rep. Jim Fannin, D-Jonesboro, questioned why the Commission insisted on classifying the aquifer as critical, claiming the use of that designation might discourage new industry from locating in northeast Louisiana.
The state has proposed making three areas surrounding the largest users of the aquifer, critical, but not the entire aquifer.
