Monthly tests may become norm

The City of Ruston’s Outdoor Audible Emergency Warning System is up and running.
In the last few days, local residents might have heard loud sounds similar to the emergency alert broadcast system on TV as the 13 sirens spread throughout the city were tested.
For now, the testing is over. But, City Utility Manager Darrell Caraway said, in the future, the city will likely conduct monthly testing of the sirens. However, he said the tones would be different than the sound the sirens would make during an actual emergency, so residents will know not to be alarmed.
