RESOLUTION NO. 820 OF 2012 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENTS TO EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK
WHEREAS, the Employee Handbook of the City of Ruston, dated for reference December 1, 2007, (the “Employee Handbook”), was adopted by Ordinance No. 1530 of 2007 and amended by Resolution No. 552 of 2007 and by Resolution No. 608 of 2008; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City that certain amendments to the Employee Handbook be approved; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RUSTON, LOUISIANA:
§1. (Intentionally left blank)
§2. Sec. 8.70 of the Employee Handbook is amended to read as follows: 8.70 Maternity Leave
Employees may take maternity leave under the same terms as medical leave. All of the above provisions will apply. Maternity leave may begin upon receipt of physician's letter advising the employee not to work until after childbirth. The City recognizes the importance of the family unit, so one working week (5 days) is offered prior to delivery and two working weeks (10 days) after delivery as strictly maternal leave. Any time off exceeding that offered as maternal leave must be drawn from sick, vacation, or compensatory time earned. Employees needing additional leave or time to care for infant children may apply for a personal leave of absence without pay.
§3. All Ordinances or Resolutions or parts of Ordinances or Resolutions, as well as all previous or existing handbooks, practices, policies, procedures, arrangements or agreements in conflict herewith or with the Employee Handbook are hereby repealed.
§4. If any one or more of the provisions of this Resolution or the Employee Handbook shall, for any reason, be held to be illegal or invalid, such illegality or invalidity shall not affect any other provision of this Resolution or the Employee Handbook, but this Resolution or the Employee Handbook shall be construed and enforced as if such legal or invalid provisions had not been contained herein. Any constitutional or statutory provision enacted after the date of this Resolution or the Employee Handbook which validates or makes legal one or more of the provisions of this Resolution or the Employee Handbook, shall be deemed to apply to this Resolution or the Employee Handbook.
§5. The amendments to the Employee Handbook referred to herein shall become effective January 1, 2013.
§6. This Resolution shall become effective upon final adoption and signature of the Mayor.
