New library policy targets sex offenders

Convicted sex offenders whose victims were under the age of 13 can only visit the Lincoln Parish Library during certain hours, according to a new policy approved by board members on Wednesday.

A 2012 state law prohibits such offenders from entering a public library, with certain exceptions. As part of Act 693, library boards must have a policy pertaining to sex offenders in place by Jan. 1.

One issue that was raised was how library board members and staff could enforce a policy to prohibit sex offenders from using the library during certain hours.
