January 10 Drew Nolan.JPG

Mr. Drew Paul Nolen Jr., age 64 of Ruston, Louisiana, departed from this Earth on January 6, 2013. He was born to parents Drew Paul Nolen Sr. and Ernestine Hollis Nolen on November 20, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

"Paul" was a 1967 graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport and 1974 graduate of Louisiana Tech University. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Jouett. Paul followed in his father's footsteps and built his life around the car business. As a second generation car businessman, he made his way to Ruston in 1977 where he spent thirty-five years owning Nolen-Rainwater Oldsmobile and C&P Autos. A loyal family man and friend, Paul or "Pal" will always be remembered for his overwhelming generosity and devotion to those he loved dearly.

Whether tinkering on cars, rummaging through estate sales, or cooking in the kitchen; Paul valued a strong work ethic and found comfort and joy in the "small things" of life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Drew Paul Nolen Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Margaret Smith Nolen; his beloved mother, Ernestine Hollis Nolen of Shreveport, Louisiana; and his devout son and daughter-in-law, Drew Paul "Bubba" Nolen III and Virginia "Ginny" Dean Nolen, along with their two children and his two precious grandchildren Melanie Margaret and Mary Elizabeth all of Shreveport, Louisiana. He is also survived by his two cherished sisters, Connie Nolen Humphries of Portland, Oregon; and Molly Nolen Apple, along with her husband Richard, of Tequesta, Florida. Other family members that loved him and were special to his heart were his father and mother-in-law Hurren "Buddy" and Margaret Morgan Smith of Shreveport; his two brother-in-laws and their wives, Randy and Janet Smith of Evanston, Illinois; and Ricky Smith and Morris "Wiggy" Witten of Taos, New Mexico; and his ten nieces and nephews: Holly and John Cahill, Katie Humphries, Ryland Witten-Smith, Kirby Witten-Smith, Grant Humphries, Caleb Smith, Benjamin Apple, Maddy Apple, Ellie Smith, Harrison Apple; and many other beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Lastly he will be greatly missed by his loyal, daily companion and favorite breakfast partner; his dog, Mickey Gilley.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Park Cemetery of Shreveport under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Derek Joyce officiating. A memorial service will also take place at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 3:00 PM with Associate Pastor Dale Oden officiating. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the memorial service Friday, January 11 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

The family would like to give special thanks to those that have and will continue to give them support during this difficult journey.
