Roadways appear safe

Students across the parish are enjoying a day off from classes due to a winter weather advisory that was in effect through noon today.

According to the National Weather Service, light wintry precipitation was expected to continue this morning gradually ending from west to east by noon. The main band of freezing rain and sleet was expected to slowly move off to the east, though precipitation is expected to remain in the area for much of the day. The precipitation was expected to change from a mix of rain and freezing rain to just rain by noon. Only very light accumulations were expected this morning, however, elevated surfaces such as trees, power lines, bridges and overpasses remained prone to icing.
