The artwork of local painter Loretta Shadow Owens is now on display at the Dixie Center for the Arts in downtown Ruston. “A Lifetime of Friendly Faces” is a collection of portraits Loretta has painted of friends and acquaintances over the years.
Owens has always been a passionate person and an active community member; from a Girl Scout and 4-H member, to being nominated for the first “Outstanding Woman” award by the Lincoln Parish Chamber of Commerce, but Loretta did not become a painter until she was 40 years old.
On Nov. 10, Ruston's Cub Scout Pack 59 collected donations of canned goods as part of the annual Scouting For Food initiative. The scouts distributed bags to homes around Ruston on Nov. 3, requesting the donations from homeowners. One week later, the bags were collected, and all food was donated to Christian Community Action. More than 400 bags of food were collected by Cub Scout Pack 59. Pictured above are Frank Reger, Beau Cash and Brendan Hood carrying a very full bag.
NCLAC is excited for the upcoming summer months, because summer equals art camps!
For more than 20 years we have been offering art camps in our region, with talented teachers and interesting projects. This year we have three camps scheduled: Ruston 1, June 23-27; Jonesboro, July 7-11; and Ruston 2, July 14-18.
