The Epsilon Psi Omega, Alpha Theta and Theta Lambda Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated hosted their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service honoring veterans and military personnel on Jan. 19.
The program and reception was held at the Lewis Temple C.M.E. Church in Grambling. The theme was “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Legend and Leader Celebrating Through Songs, Music and Poetry.”
There were veterans and other military personnel at the celebration from all branches of the United States Armed Forces.
The North Central Louisiana Arts Council held its annual School Show Presentation on Sept. 24. Percussionist Zig Wajler, of “Hands On With Zig,” presented his show Zig’s Musical Journey to 546 students and chaperones at the Dixie Center for the Arts. NCLAC holds a musical presentation for Lincoln Parish middle school students each year. This year’s participants included I.A. Lewis, Simsboro High School, Ruston Christian Homeschoolers, A.E. Phillips, Montessori School of Ruston, Bayou Homeschoolers, Dubach School and Choudrant.
The National Science Foundation has awarded Marisa Orr, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Louisiana Tech University, a five-year, $500,000 Early Career Development grant to support her research in engineering education.
This award is the first NSF CAREER grant for engineering education at Tech and the seventh CAREER grant awarded to a professor from Tech’s College of Engineering and Science.
