As health care in the United States evolves, there is a lot of talk about having a primary care provider. Many people think that if they’re healthy, there’s no reason to have a primary care provider (PCP). But a main or primary doctor can serve as a trusted medical advisor and healer as he or she cares for one’s health over a long period of time — even a lifetime.
The PCP’s role is to:

• Identify and treat common medical conditions

• Provide preventive care and teach healthy lifestyle, nutrition and physical activity choices
