’Dogs make jump in polls again

Sophomore guard Raheem Appleby has a team-leading 14.4 scoring average for Louisiana Tech University’s Bulldogs, who will be at home Thursday against the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Head Coach Michael White of Louisiana Tech University isn’t concerned so much about the national polls as how his young team handles the attention.

“Ninety percent of this is how we’re going to handle the success,” he said Monday shortly after the weekly Associated Press and USA Today polls revealed another advance in votes for his Western Athletic Conference-leading team. “In the big picture, honestly, all of this success may be coming a little too fast for our players, so we’ve got to keep reminding them about it.”
The Bulldogs went from eight points in last week’s AP poll to 24 this week, leaving them in the No. 33 position ahead of Kentucky, which is No. 34 with 21 points.
