RESOLUTION NO. 827 OF 2013
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION ALLOWING LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY TO TRANSFER OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY TO THE CITY OF RUSTON
WHEREAS, Louisiana Tech University (the “University”) owns a 38,853+/- square parcel of land located at the Northeast corner of the intersection of Tech Drive and U.S. Highway 80 in the City, said parcel also known as the former Grace United Methodist Church property (the “Property”); and, WHEREAS, due to the value of adjacent properties, there is minimal possibility that the University will be able to adjoin this site with other University property in the area, thereby limiting further development beyond that of parking; and, WHEREAS, the City currently has a small, land-locked fire station bordering the Property and has expressed interest in constructing a larger fire station on the Property to house personnel and emergency vehicles, including a one-hundred foot (100') ladder truck and at least one ambulance; and, WHEREAS, certain benefits would accrue to the University and to the City by the construction of a larger fire station on the Property, with the benefits to the citizens of the City including improved Fire Department services in the South and West areas of the City; and, WHEREAS, the City supports legislation allowing the University to transfer ownership of the Property to the City for the purpose of constructing a fire station that will house personnel, fire equipment, and emergency medical equipment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RUSTON, LOUISIANA:
§1. The City supports legislation allowing the University to transfer ownership of the Property to the City for the purpose of constructing a fire station that will house personnel, fire equipment, and emergency medical equipment.
§2. This Resolution shall become effective upon final adoption and signature of the Mayor.
Said Resolution having been read and considered by a quorum of the Board of Aldermen, on motion to adopt by Alderwoman Marie Riggs, seconded by Alderwoman Glenda Howard, a record vote was taken and the following result was had:

WHEREUPON, the presiding officer declared the above Resolution duly adopted in full on this the 4th day of February, 2013.
