Tigers, Lady Hornets earn berths in title games

Simsboro High’s Ron Abney had nine points and four steals in a 62-41 Class B boys’ semifinal victory over Anacoco in Bossier City this weekend. He’ll be helping lead the Tigers into an 8 p.m. championship game appearance against Madison Prep Academy Wednesday in Monroe.

Last week, their teams went west.

This week, head coaches Theodis Johnson of Dubach High and Lance Waldron of Simsboro take their squads east.

And for the big prize in the annual Louisiana High School Athletic Association basketball playoffs, no less.

The Waldron-guided Tigers will meet Madison Prep Academy for the boys’ state championship in Class B at 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

On Friday, the Johnson-directed Lady Hornets will collide with Saline for the girls’ Class C title at noon.
