Council gives tentative approval of 2005 budget
The next step leading to final approval is a public hearing on the budget which is set for Sept. 7.
The proposed $49.45 million budget is about $2 million larger than the 2004 budget of $47.49 million. The increases were out of the control of city officials, according to Ruston Treasurer George Murphy.
"It was tough balancing this year's budget," Murphy said. "We had increases in insurance and a $1 million increase in the Firefighters, Police and Municipal Workers Retirement funds."
