One smoking bill up for vote
A federal health initiative earlier this year significantly bumped up taxes on tobacco products.
Now at the state level, legislators will consider a new law that would ban smoking inside bars and casinos.
House Bill 844, authored by Rep. Gary Smith, D-Norco, narrowly passed in the House Health and Welfare Committee and is slated to move on to the full House.
If approved, the law would be the state’s second in three years aimed at reducing the number of facilities where smoking is allowed.
