‘Dixie Swim Club’ opens this week
Billy Chandler, director of Ruston Community Theatre’s last production of the season, “The Dixie Swim Club,” thinks the play will make a splash in Ruston. The story will be brought to life on the Dixie Center for the Arts stage from Thursday through Sunday.
“We chose the play for its southern roots and content,” Chandler said. “It’s a lot like ‘Steel Magnolias.’ It’s got a lot of comedy in it, but it’s also got some real touching scenes. We thought it’d be a great play for this area that people would enjoy.”
Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, the play is a comedic drama about the friendships of five southern women who meet in college on their school swim team. Every year they gather for a weekend at a North Carolina beach house to catch up and meddle in one another’s lives. The story about friendship, love and teamwork spans 33 years.
