Gas storage facility raises questions
News has spread through Lincoln and Union parishes that an underground gas storage tank could be in the making.
The Vaughn Sand Reservoir, which is located 9,000 feet underground, has been depleted for a few decades. Officials with Sawgrass Storage LLC propose using this old reservoir to store gas and then distribute it when market prices improve.
“The reservoir would be developed for storage by directionally drilling 19-20 injection/withdrawal wells from five well pads and constructing a 15,000 HP main gas compression station near Downsville and a 10,000 HP compressor station near Sterlington to facilitate pipeline interconnection,” spokesman Richard A. Caragol said.
