Budget cuts won’t have major effect at LTC’s Ruston branch

While the Louisiana Community and Technical College System has taken a $2 million budget hit for the upcoming 2010-11 academic year, the Ruston branch of Louisiana Technical College will not be majorly affected.

“We’re looking stable — we’re holding our own and didn’t suffer any losses,” Ruston LTC branch Dean Doug Postel said Wednesday. “Our increased enrollment here in Ruston the past couple of years helped balance things out. The reduction came to the system as a whole, but we’ll get a little more than we have been getting because our enrollment numbers have been up, and that will help balance things out as far as the budget goes.”

Actions taken last week by the LCTCS Executive Committee included approval of the 2010-11 budget allocation of state funds to member institutions. LCTCS colleges received a state-funded appropriation of $174,861,853. The budget incorporates an additional $4 million in growth funding that was provided to LCTCS colleges at the end of the 2010 Legislative session through the Board of Regents funding formula. Additionally, the college budgets reflect recent reorganization changes that include the transfer of several technical college campuses to community colleges.
