T.J. Murphy allowed only three hits and two bases on balls in helping Louisiana District 5 roll past Illinois with a 10-run rule victory in an opening pool play game at the Big League World Series on Thursday night.

EASLEY, S.C. — If it’s good pitching what Louisiana’s District 5 team needs to advance deep into the 2010 Big League World Series, then they’re off to a good start.

Righthander T.J. Murphy yielded only three hits and two bases on balls while striking out six batters in helping lead the “5” crew to a dominating 10-0 victory over the Central United States champions from Illinois in pool play at the Red Owens Complex Thursday night.

The game went five innings and was declared over after the Southwest Regional champions scored four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.
