Parents of fifth-grade students more than likely received a reminder from their children this week about conserving the precious resources that are starting to dry up in our area.

For the past 10 years, fifth-grade students at local elementary schools have been introduced to the City of Ruston employees in charge of keeping water in their faucets and electricity in their homes.

Earl Albritton, assistant to the mayor, said Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth began this program toward the beginning of his tenure because of the need to preserve the depleting Sparta Aquifer.
