Fred W. Guilbert
Dr. Fred W. Guilbert, age 82, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at Leslie Lakes Retirement Center in Arcadia October 14, 2010.
Graveside services will be held Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Simsboro City Cemetery in Simsboro. It will be followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Simsboro First Baptist Church with Dr. Wilton Wall and Dr. Ron Cathey officiating and the Guilbert family leading in worship.
Bro. Fred, as he was so lovingly referred to, was born at home raised on Presidents Street in Jackson, Miss., by his loving parents, William and Mary Clark Guilbert.
At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served four years active and four years reserve duty. Following his military career and marriage to Alice Ruth Faulk, he was called to the ministry and pastored for 23 years.
He later served as manager of Harris Baptist Assembly in Minden from 1977 until 1995. After retiring from the ministry, he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher at Simsboro First Baptist along with his wife Ruth.
After her death, he moved to Texarkana, Ark., and became an active member in the community and his church there.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Faulk Guilbert and a great grandson, Garrison Guilbert-Duffy.
Dr. Guilbert is survived by two sons: Dr. Fred Guilbert, Jr. and wife Karen of DeVille and Chuck Guilbert and wife Karen of Texarkana, Ark.; he had three daughters: Dr. Ann Guilbert of Sherwood, Ark., Mary Alice Sacana and husband Jaime of Highland Village, Texas, and Janet Allen and husband Dallas of Ruston.
The joy of his life was his 12 grandchildren: Suzanne Guilbert Cole, Melissa Guilbert Freeman, Rebecca Guilbert Quarles, Kristen Guilbert Goodlett, Ashley Guilbert, Heith Guilbert, Breanne Guilbert Duffy, Brennan Guilbert, Jay Savana, Ruth Ann Savana, Daniel Allen and Hannah Allen and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Heath Guilbert, Brennan Guilbert, Jay Savana and Daniel Allen as well as his two sons-in-law Jaime Savana and Dallas Allen.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston.
