Most of us spend at least some amount of time considering how healthy the food we place in our mouths each day actually is – especially with the general societal focus on being thin, beautiful and living forever (or at least as long as you can). However, many of us don’t put too much consideration into the food in the bowls of our beloved canine companions.

When I first got my puppy about four months ago she was the cutest little thing I ever saw. Being a proud new puppy parent, I researched as much as I could about all sorts of things. However, having never had to choose the food my dogs were fed growing up – I didn’t realize how horrible most of the foods sitting on the grocery store shelf were.

I did read some about the subject. Many of the suggestions – ranging from feeding the dog raw meat to paying top dollar on premium bagged food – seemed intimidating because of time and cost prohibitions. I can barely muster up the know-how to cook a hearty, healthy meal for myself – much less my adorable little Lady Godiva (she is named after the historical figure – but, yes, she is chocolate colored).
