Ruston High School STEM Marine Science students Kate Warner (left) and Meagan Hammons are seen using the class’s 55-gallon tank to test the remotely operated vehicle units that they constructed. Under the direction of teacher Amy Guerin, the students completed a study of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and investigated how the ROV’s were used during the disaster. Students experienced what it was like to control the units while exploring concepts that included ballast, buoyancy and Archimedes’s Principle.
