Edward Dale Pennington, 92, of Ruston, formerly of Malvern, Ark., died Friday, Oct. 22. He was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Fordyce, Ark., to John W. and Della McAllister Pennington. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Scroggin of Taylor’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Dale was raised in Sparkman, Ark. He was a longtime member of Taylor’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Men’s Sunday school class. Dale served in the U.S. Army from June 13, 1945, until July 28, 1946. He retired in 1981 after 30 years with Natural Gas Pipeline where he worked as a Computer Operator. In 2004, Dale moved with his wife, Queenie, to Ruston to live closer to their daughter. He lived at the Arbor in Ruston until his recent move to the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City. He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Orren and her husband E. L. “Sonny” Orren of Ruston; one son, Charles Edward Pennington and his wife, Dianne of Malvern, Ark.; one son-in-law, Doug Duty of Benton; one brother, Carl Pennington and his wife Blanche of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren Debbie Jayroe and Cindy Selmer, both of Benton; Richard Fowler Mansfield Jr. of Simpsonville, Ky.; Angela Bevill, Rodney Pennington and Brandy Richards, of Hot Springs, Ark.; Jody Dickson of Jessieville, Ark.; Jeremy McInroe of Malvern, Ark.; 22 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 71 years, Queenie Pennington; his daughter Sue Duty; brothers Graydon Pennington of Sheridan, Ark., Nolan Pennington of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Odus Pennington of Arkadelphia, Ark.; sisters Elva Gordon of Malvern, Ark., Amy Mae Lightsey of Shaver Lake, Calif.; and one grandson, Rusty Pennington of Malvern, Ark. Pallbearers are Raymond Ray, Murl Jordon, Travis Pennington, Frank Burton, Orman Wallace and Carl Robbins. Special thanks to family friend and caregiver, Janelle Silvey.
