Students, teachers and community members gathered at I.A. Lewis School on Friday to participate in the Think Pink Walk.

The event was created to honor the memory of the late I.A. Lewis math teacher Charlene O’Neal Best who died of breast cancer last year. The event was also used to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation, which works toward the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

Students spent the week learning facts about breast cancer and raising money to help in the fight. Principal Sonja Walker said students have learned about the negative aspects of breast cancer, the benefits of self-examination and the importance of encouraging family members to make sure they’ve been checked.
