In North Louisiana, one in every four babies born is premature, which is twice the national average.
According to the March of Dimes’ website, www.marchofdimes.com, in an average week 1,255 babies are born in Louisiana, 194 of are born premature, 136 of them are born with low birth weights and 12 die before reaching their first birthday.
