The Kittenettes (2-1) won a barnburner Thursday night, outlasting Sterlington 52-51 in overtime.

“We were fortunate to win this game,” head coach Cecil Gray said.

Gray, a longtime Grambling coach who took a sabbatical last year during Kittenettes’ rough year, has been helped by the arrival of some new faces — five of which landed in Grambling in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Three of those evacuees — Tyonne Wilson, Jasmine Butler and ZainDymeka Eugene — started for the Kittenettes and helped power them to the victory.
