Most assaults on women aren’t committed by strangers who were hiding behind bushes in the dark.

In fact, women are 85 to 95 percent more likely to be the victim of physical violence at the hands of a current or former intimate partner, says Debra Faircloth, a community advocate for the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team.
