Panthers’ win would be big for Saints

It’s great to be home for the holiday.

It’s even better to be home for the playoffs.

That’s an unlikely scenario for the New Orleans Saints, but it is a possible one, even more so after Friday’s news that John Fox won’t be returning to coach the Carolina Panthers.

The Saints head into today’s regular season-ending home game against Tampa Bay one game behind the Atlanta Falcons for first place in the NFC. But it’s not only a divisional title on the line for the Saints — a win over the Buccaneers combined with a Carolina win over Atlanta would give the Saints a short at the top seed in the NFC and would give them at least one home game for the playoffs.
