MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RUSTON HELD ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2010, AT 11:00 A.M., IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS/ COURTROOM, 2ND FLOOR, CITY HALL, 401 NORTH TRENTON, RUSTON, LOUISIANA
A special meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Ruston was held Friday, December 17, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., in the Council Chambers/Courtroom, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 401 North Trenton, Ruston, Louisiana. A quorum was present, notice having been duly served. Mayor Dan Hollingsworth, Aldermen Jedd Lewis, Elmore Mayfield, Jim Pearce, Levell Thurman and Alderwoman Marie Riggs were present. Mayor Dan Hollingsworth called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. The invocation was delivered by Alderman Jedd Lewis.
I. ADOPT:
A. AGENDA.
Alderman Jim Pearce made a motion, seconded by Alderman Elmore Mayfield, to adopt the agenda, as presented. Mayor Hollingsworth asked for comments from the audience and there were none. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
II. ADMINISTRATION:
A. NAME FIRE CHIEF.
Mayor Hollingsworth presented a recommendation that James Austin be named Fire Chief for the City of Ruston. He said Provisional Assistant Fire Chief Austin had served in that capacity since April 2, 2007 and has been with the City 28 years, 10 months and 15 days, longer than any of the other candidates. Alderman Elmore Mayfield made a motion, seconded by Alderman Levell Thurman, to approve the recommendation. After a brief discussion, the motion passed by unanimous vote. Newly named Fire Chief James Austin thanked the Mayor and Council for their consideration and promised to work diligently to provide quality public safety to our community. He also introduced his wife, Theresa, and she made a brief comment.
III. ADJOURN MEETING:
There being no further business, the meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen was adjourned at 11:11 a.m.
