Women’s national title winners made friends for life

Jay Taylor reflect back on the Louisiana Tech University women’s basketball program during a luncheon held Saturday to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its first-ever national championship team. Hogg was the first head coach and Taylor was the university’s president at the time the Lady Techsters were formed in 1974.

The calendar numbers might have said “30,” but the friendships and memories remain as strong as ever.

Numerous representatives of Louisiana Tech University’s three national championship teams in women’s basketball celebrated anniversary No. 30 on Saturday, reminiscing about their milestone-producing success and exchanging hugs and handshakes as if they had just walked off the court with another trophy.

“Gosh, it seems like just yesterday, doesn’t it?” said Sonja Hogg, the first-ever head coach of the Lady Techsters and a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. “Maybe the years have gone by, but there were so many relationships made and so many great things that all of us will remember for the rest of our lives.
