Eleanor Joyce Hewins Robinson
Ruston native, Eleanor Robinson, age 86, passed away peacefully from this earth on a Sunday afternoon at Friendship Haven in Friendswood, TX, while a hymn was being sung to her by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth F. Hewins and Lilian Loge Hewins. She is survived by her beloved husband Charles, of 63 years, by her children: Charles; John and wife Tina of Houston; Paul of Houston and fiancée Valerie Cox of Cleveland, TX; by her sister Marilyn Wright of Bogalusa, Louisiana; and by her granddaughter, Rachel Althaus and husband Chad of Cypress, TX.
Mrs. Robinson loved and was loved by all whom she met. She served her Lord Jesus faithfully for over 40 years at Park Place United Methodist (now Servants of Christ) and is remembered for her smile, generosity, humility, and kindness.
Eleanor was born in Ruston, Louisiana where she grew up and attended Ruston High School and Louisiana Tech University. As a 17-year-old freshman at Tech, she met Charles Robinson whom she married six years later while he was home on leave during his service in the Navy. After college, Eleanor taught school in Louisiana before becoming a mother. A few years after arriving in Houston, TX, she began working for the Houston Independent School District. She was a Teacher’s Aide at Reagan Mading Elementary and then became Secretary of Almeda School. For many years, she faithfully wrote weekly handwritten letters to her parents and to her in-laws. She was active in her church women’s and missions organizations. She always looked for ways to serve others, especially those in need. After having three boys, she waited patiently for her first and only granddaughter, Rachel, with whom she loved to spend time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Servants of Christ Methodist Parish would be appreciated
