James R. Buggs, Jr.

James R. Buggs Jr., 90, passed away on December 29, 2023, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born on June 12, 1933, in Ruston. James was married to his late wife, Bettye Jean Buggs.

Retired Petty Officer First Class, CM1, James R. Buggs, Jr., had a distinguished military career, serving in both the United States Navy as a Fighting Seabee from 1958 to 1978 and the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. James served in the Vietnam War twice. He proudly dedicated himself to the service of his country.

After his military service, James pursued a career as a Diesel Mechanic at South Coast Area Transit in Oxnard, California. He was highly skilled and respected in his field.

James had a passion for basketball and played for his high school, Lincoln High School, and for the armed services. Additionally, he enjoyed golf and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed spending his free time on the golf course, honing his skills and enjoying the company of family and friends.

As a young child, James was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Ruston.

James’ remains will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at the Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery with full honors at a later date.

Family, friends, and fellow veterans will gather to honor his memory and pay their respects.

James R. Buggs Jr. leaves behind a legacy of dedication, service, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
