was introduced by Alderman Bruce Siegmund on January 8, 2018. A Public Hearing will be held on the Ordinance and the Ordinance will be considered for adoption at the regular meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to be held at 5:30 p.m., on February 5, 2018, Council Chambers/ Courtroom, City Hall, 401 North Trenton Street, Ruston, Louisiana.

The Ruston Housing Authority is developing its 2019 Operating Budget, 2018 Capital Fund Program; 2018 Environmental Review; and the 5-Year/Annual PHA Plan in compliance with the Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998. It is available for review at the Housing Authority's Office located at 615 North Farmerville Street, Ruston, Louisiana. The Housing Authority's hours of operation are 8:00AM to 5:00PM. In addition, a Public Hearing will be held on, Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Housing Authority's office at 4:00PM. Everyone is invited.

Miss Grambling State University participates in Washington Post article

“Being an American means to be free.”
That was the message from Miss Grambling State 2017 Jimmitriv “Jimmi” Roberson, 21, during an interview with The Washington Post in early October for an article titled “What Unites Us?” that was published online Thursday.
“The common value that we all have is freedom, ultimately,” said Roberson to The Washington Post. “Because with religious values, they’re not all the same. Love and hate, division. We don’t all believe in the same thing. We have our right to do whatever we want to do in the NFL, with kneeling and everything.”

Walpole receives Robert E. Russ Award

More than 200 people showed up to applaud this year’s nominees during the 98th Annual Chamber Awards Banquet at the Ruston Civic Center Thursday evening.
Doug Postel, emcee for the event, welcomed everyone to the event.
“We will recognize area businesses and business leaders for being great community partners,” he said. “As for the Chamber of Commerce, we are very proud of our accomplishments this past year and we look forward to the outstanding opportunities for our community and parish that 2018 will bring.”

‘Living Dead in Denmark’ to take the stage Jan. 30

Dare to become a hero in a Shakespearean world where the dead rise.
The Louisiana Tech University Department of Theatre is proud to present “Living Dead in Denmark,” written by Qui Nguyen and directed by Mark D. Guinn.
Nguyen also wrote last year’s crowd-favorite, “She Kills Monsters,” the 1990s’ Dungeons and Dragons action-adventure.
People loved it so much, they came back to see it again.

Chamber thanks locals for 98 years dedication

With roots stretching back to 1919, the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce has served the needs of the business community, and in turn the community at large, in a variety of capacities.
One of those capacities is hosting the annual Chamber Awards Banquet thet lets the community know the importance of the hard work and dedication of their friends and neighbors.
With each face name called forward, cheers were heard throughout the Ruston Civic Center Thursday night.

Avoid shutting government down

The federal government has unabashedly looked polarized for the past several election cycles.
There’s no further proof of this division than what the federal government currently faces today — a potential partial government shutdown.
Come midnight, the United States government could possibly partially shutdown for the first time since 2013 unless the Republican dominated Congress passes a new spending agreement that would need to be signed by Republican President Donald Trump.

Young Dunkin’ Dogs lead Tech past N. Texas

Louisiana Tech had lost its last five games by four points or less coming into Thursday night.
The Bulldogs, in particular the freshman duo of Anthony Duruji and Amorie Archibald, did not let that happen again.
The tandem combined to score 46 points, including two free throws with 0.9 seconds left from the forward Duruji, to come away with a 66-65 victory over North Texas in front of a season-high 4,236 fans inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
