Sealed bids for the following project will be received by the Purchasing Department of the City of Ruston, Louisiana, located at Ruston Public Works Complex, 701 East Tennessee Avenue, Ruston, Louisiana 71270, either by mail or hand delivery, no later than 2:00 P.M. local time on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at which time all bids received will be publicly opened and read aloud in the in the office of the Purchasing Director. Bids received after the 2:00 P.M. deadline will be returned via certified mail to the bidder unopened.

Aerospace engineering club launches Harley 11

The Louisiana Tech University Aerospace Engineering Club recently launched Harley II, the second in a series of high-altitude weather balloons launched by the club, which reached a height of approximately 22 miles and had a flight time of 3 hours and 43 minutes.
The club launched Harley II from Joe Aillet Stadium, along with a plastic Louisiana Tech Bulldog, with the mission of capturing imagery for the university. The experiment captured more than 20 gigabytes of photos and video.

Students to receive free books

in
School district aims to combat ‘summer slide’

Lincoln Parish kindergarten through sixth grade public school students will go home with new books to read for the summer.
Lincoln Parish schools Academic Intervention Coordinator Lisa Mangum said each school will host a book fair during the remaining days of the school year where students will be able to pick up to pick five to 10 books that suits their interest.
“They will have the option of fiction and nonfiction, culturally diverse books from current authors kids love to read from,” she said.

Triplets make the scene at Grambling State

Got twins? That’s nothing. Grambling State University has triplets.
“It’s awesome being a triplet. When you tell people you are triplets, it’s like you are a celebrity. You’re famous. They don’t believe it until they see all three faces,” said Stevie Wilson, the oldest triplet.
Stevie Wilson, Steven Wilson and Stephon Wilson are freshmen from Winnfield.
At 19, they have become quite involved in the campus life at GSU. As they wrap up their first year, they are becoming more and more popular.

Typo, shmypo – who cares?

Later this year texting will celebrate its 25th anniversary. As for me, this month marks my third year of the text. Yeah, I’m a little behind the times.
Maybe that explains why I’m kind of annoyed by all the typos I — and others — make. Maybe I’m such a novice I haven’t gotten used to it yet. But more likely, I can blame my 34 years of teaching copy editing.
Now please realize: I’m not throwing stones. I live in a glass house when it comes to making errors.

GSU, Grambling upgrades to boost city

Grambling State University Tiger football fans may see some noticeable changes for the upcoming season.
The university recently announced the first major renovations and upgrades to the Eddie G. Robinson Memorial stadium in decades that includes a total football field turf overhaul and a state-of-the-art high-tech digital scoreboard.
The project’s estimated cost is $1.5-2 million with a scheduled estimated completion date for mid-August before the first home game against Northwestern State University.

Starting today and slated once a month, a new entry on our Monday list of sportily items will be labeled as Buddy’s Blog Banter.
It will serve as the leadoff segment of our blog in which we will note various individuals with Lincoln Parish athletic connections making a name for themselves and their schools, alma maters, hometowns, etc.
And then followed by our regular offerings that have become familiar with “Blog” readers.
Or we hope so, anyway.
