BPCC sets auditions for one-act plays

The Bossier Parish Community College Division of Communication and Performing Arts and the Cavalier Players announce auditions for the 2013 Annual Fall Festival of One-Act Plays.
Auditions are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the Performing Arts Theatre located at 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City on the BPCC campus.
Roles are available for both males and females, ages 18 and up. Anyone interested in filling technical positions should also attend auditions to complete an application and meet the directors.

Holtz thanks fans for support

Louisiana Tech University head football coach Skip Holtz was proud of the way “the 12th man” came through for the Bulldogs last weekend in a home-opening win over Lamar.
Now he hopes that “12th man” will be at full strength at 6:30 p.m. Thursday as the Bulldogs play host to Tulane in Tech’s annual Red-Out game to be nationally televised by Fox Sports 1.

Davison qualifies for women’s Mid-Am championship

CHOUDRANT — Squire Creek’s Sarah Davison, who won the women’s state amateur golf title on her home course in June, has qualified for the upcoming Women’s U.S. Mid-Am Championship.
Playing at Stonebridge in McKinney, Tex., Davison grabbed one of eight slots available at the sectional qualifying site and will now participate in the USGA National Mid-Am Tournament scheduled for Ashville, N.C., Oct. 5-10.

Tech volleyball hits road to take on Stephen F. Austin

After a strong showing this past weekend at its home tournament, Louisiana Tech will hit the road midweek to take on the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 p.m. today at Shelton Gym in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The Lady Techsters (4-3) were 2-1 over the weekend with wins over in-state foes McNeese State and New Orleans and a tough four-set loss to Western Michigan. Tech will come into tomorrow’s road match having won three of its last four matches.

Show support for Bulldogs

The Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs need you. So does the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Louisiana Tech plays on national television at 6:30 p.m. Thursday as the Bulldogs will play host to Tulane in game set to broadcast on the new Fox Sports 1 television channel.
The game will be Tech’s annual Red-Out game, in which all fans are encouraged to wear red — meaning the national television audience will see a sea of red cheering on the Bulldogs against the Green Wave.

Be patient when doing research

Very often when people are talking with me about where they learned something or why they did something it is because they read it on the Internet. Apparently, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest are looked at by some as the greatest sources of updated and correct information available to everyone. It’s a scary thought that the Internet has become such a “no questions” asked source of information for many. Even a popular auto insurance company makes fun of the “Everything on the Internet Is True” attitude with the so-called “French Model” commercial.

I have covered the Lincoln Parish School Board for about three years. During that time, I really can't think of a time when some construction project wasn't either ongoing or in the process of being approved.
Students who graduated as recently as five years ago would not recognize some of the schools they call their alma maters. And, the truth is, I think that's great.
School is important. There are numerous studies citing how important education is to a society.
