The Ruston Old Fire Station was decorated very festively with a Christmas tree and table decorations. Hosts Margaret and Ed Astin and Janece and Louie Miller invited the group to come and enjoy the festivities.
But, before the fun began, President Carolyn Estes called the business meeting to order. JoAnn Taylor voiced the opening prayer and all said the Pledge of Allegiance. Pat Dickson called the roll and read the minutes. Twelve rigs answered roll call.

The 2014 Annual Freedom Fund Banquet for the Lincoln Parish Branch of the NAACP was held Saturday night at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.
Guest speaker for the event was Lincoln Parish Assistant District Attorney John F. Belton. He was introduced by his wife, Alana Belton.
“John received home training from his father,” she said. “His father taught him many things, and he has in turn taught me discipline.”
John Belton said residents in attendance were living the dream of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

GSU observes MLK Day

GRAMBLING — Grambling State University campus ministries and the Favrot Student Union Board will host a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at 5 p.m. today.
Main speaker Alana Belton is a prominent attorney and businesswoman in Monroe, West Monroe and Ruston. She and her husband, attorney John Belton, operate Belton and Belton, a Ruston-based law firm.

Burn ban in effect

LPFD fights six grass, wood fires over weekend

After responding to six woods and grass fires, two of which burned more than 30 acres, the Lincoln Parish Fire District No. 1 has issued a burn ban.
Capt. Dustin St. Andre said after responding to such a large number of calls, the department decided to issue a burn ban.
