Support local business during sales tax event

Area hunters and firearm enthusiasts, get ready. The first big take of the season is in sight.
It’s Louisiana’s annual Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday, set for Sept. 6-8.
On those days, guns, ammunition and other kinds of hunting gear and accessories are free from both state and local sales taxes. Retailers say the weekend brings out hundreds — maybe even thousands — of shoppers, and often results in a typical month’s sales occurring in just three days.

Ruston proactively tightens belt

It was bound to happen. After all, when you spend your monetary reserves — your savings — down past your comfort zone, sooner or later, something’s got to give. And, if you’re the city of Ruston, what gives is the wiggle room you used to have in your financial belt.
So, you take a deep breath and draw that belt a notch tighter. If all goes according to plan, Ruston’s Board of Aldermen on Monday will approve a leaner budget for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.

Beth Durrett Lowery beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at on Thursday, August 29, 2013 following a long battle with Alzheimer disease. As requested, her body was donated to LSU Health Shreveport for the advancement of medical student education. Her remains will eventually be buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery near Beth's birthplace and family home in Arcadia, Louisiana. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, September 6 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Van Hook home, 2836 Myrtle Street in Arcadia. Mrs.

REGULAR MEETING OF TOWN COUNCIL The Town Council of Dubach, Louisiana met in Regular Session Monday, August 19, 2013 at 6:30 pm at the Town Hall.
Present were Honorable Robert Jensen Mayor, and Council members Vallie Carrico, Robert Colvin, Hattie Graham, Davie Powell, Donna Lewis, Chief Croxton, and Jessica Darden with the Ruston Daily Leader.
Absent: NONE
Citizens attended: Seth Humble and W. L. Rowland
The Meeting opened with Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation by Mayor Jensen.

Ruston High School has long been known for a tradition of football excellence.
And a group of former RHS football players are striving to keep that tradition alive as they work to rebuild the Bearcat Football Club Inc.
Established as a nonprofit organization in 1988 under the direction of Coach Jimmy “Chick” Childress and the late Pat Moyer, a longtime faithful supporter of the Bearcats, the BFC has worked to provide many different things the Bearcats football team has needed over the years.
