Joretta Nicholson Ingram, 85, of Lafayette, LA, formerly of Ruston, passed away peacefully June 20, 2017. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston, LA. Father Bill Easterling will officiate with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will be Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 5 – 7 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Peach Restaurant Week promotes eating at local establishments

Ruston restaurant patrons may have started noticing local establishments have been a little peachier this week.
That’s because more than 12 local restaurants are currently offering specialty peach-related dishes and drinks until Sunday to celebrate the inaugural Peach Restaurant Week during Louisiana Peach Festival.
This event celebrates Ruston’s culinary scene the week of the Louisiana Peach Festival, said Amanda Quimby, Ruston Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Items range from salads and burgers to coffee, teas, cocktails and desserts.

Best in Show art pieces announced

The chattering of the crowd came to a halt as Ruston Mayor Ronnie Walker and NCLAC Board President Peter Jones stepped forward to award more than 30 artists during the opening reception of the Louisiana Peach Art Exhibit Tuesday evening at the Ruston Civic Center.
Of the more than 250 entries three were selected for Best in Show which included “Flight of the Bumblebee” by Brayden Pye, as the youth winner; “Feathers” by Will Cantrell, teen winner; and “Watermelon, Wrapped” by Julie Crews.

Local woman killed in accident

A Ruston woman was killed Wednesday after losing control of her vehicle striking a parked dump truck.
Christie Wheeler, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene on Interstate 20 west of West Monroe, authorities said. Louisiana State Police responded to the crash shortly after 7:30 p.m.
Wheeler was driving a Mercedes L30 that traveled into the median and struck a dump truck that was parked and unoccupied in the median. The investigation is ongoing.
A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis, authorities said.
