DART thankful for ‘outpouring of kindness’

Terrie Queen Autrey.jpg

As the week of Thanksgiving arrives, my heart is set upon one small request recently made by DART, and the outpouring of kindness and generosity from our community in response to that need.
Sometimes it may seem that our focus lies with the emergency shelter which DART operates, where families who are in danger can come to escape an abusive family member.

In search of Bonnie and Clyde landmarks, history

in
Randy 2018 2018.jpg

Have you ever tried to find the spot in Bienville Parish where Bonnie & Clyde were ambushed? Try finding it, I dare you. It ain’t easy. It took me a few tries to locate the small monument. I was beginning to think somebody had stolen it or something.

FCA future looks bright

For 50 years, the North Central Louisiana Fellowship of Christian Athletes has provided something no other organization has ever provided before — a place for student athletes and their coaches to come together and speak about the word of Jesus Christ.
Former Louisiana Tech University athletics director Jim Oakes said the local chapter of the organization began with the help former Ruston High School basketball coach Dickie Richards, who helped establish the first “huddle” at RHS in 1967.

Astros, Cubs defy odds as world champions
Davis, Buddy 2015.jpg

Moose can sing, goldfish can fly and there’s hope for the ugliest boy and girl in class.
Next thing we know, the Cleveland Browns will be hosting time management classes.
Yes, after the past two World Series, anything is possible.
Did you ever, in your most extreme day dreaming, figure on the back-to-back world champions for MLB to be two franchises batting-cage deep in historical mediocrity?
Come on, man.
You don’t mean ... ?
Yes, I do.
Two years ago, it was the Chicago Cubs, who had been title-flag starved since 1908.

G-Women fall at home to No. 17 Florida State

in

GRAMBLING — A combined 31 points were scored between Deja McKinney and Jasmine Torian, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Grambling State University women’s basketball team fell to 17th-ranked Florida State 96-53 on Sunday afternoon in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game from start to finish, “ Grambling State head coach Freddie Murray said. “We schedule these type of games for a reason. We know that we can play at this level. The area that we’re strengthening in right now is our inside game.”

Saints rally late for eighth straight win

in

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Drew Brees had been intercepted, knocked around and held without a touchdown pass for most of what nearly went down as one of his more forgettable performances in a Saints uniform.
Then came a stint of virtual perfection that helped produced a memorable comeback.
Brees completed all 11 passes during New Orleans’ final two drives of regulation for 164 yards and two touchdowns. If not for that, the Saints (8-2) could hardly expect to be celebrating their eighth straight victory.

Schroder elected treasurer

in

BATON ROUGE (AP) — John Schroder, a Republican businessman and former legislator, won a special election Saturday for state treasurer.

Schroder had 56 percent of the vote over Democrat Derrick Edwards, according to complete, unofficial returns.

Schroder will take over a post vacated by John Kennedy, a popular Republican who left the job early after winning election to the U.S. Senate.

Schroder was the front-runner in the competition after Republicans in the six-candidate October primary split 67 percent of the vote.
