Bulldogs add Auburn to 2014 football slate

Louisiana Tech officials announced Wednesday morning that the school has added Auburn to its 2014 non-conference football schedule.
The game, which will be the 13th installment in the series, will be held on Sept. 27, 2014, at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala. The two teams last played in the 2009 season opener.
The last three games Louisiana Tech has played against Southeastern Conference opponents have all been decided by one possession.

Mary Catherine Allman

To know her was to love her… Mary Catherine Allman was born on August 8, 1973 in Ruston, LA and passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013. She loved her hometown and grew up surrounded by family and friends. She was a 1991 graduate of Ruston High School. Her college experience was spent at Louisiana Tech University where she was actively involved in the Baptist Student Union and sang with Believer’s Harmony music ministry.

Summer Heat yields five arrests

Local law enforcement has made five more arrests in conjunction with Operation Summer Heat.
At approximately 7:51 p.m. Tuesday Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team conducted a search warrant at 3020 Paul Ave.

Local ladies to rock the clock

Piney Hills Harmony director Sheila Nugent, of Ruston (center), joins the Sweet Adelines in song during 2012’s “Rock Around the Clock.” An updated and expanded version of the show that brings three decades of music back to the stage will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Jack Howard Theater at the Monroe Civic Center. Six other local residents are members of the Ruston-based chorus, including Nugent’s mother, Judy Stepp and Suzy Henderson. Tickets are available at the Monroe Civic Center box office or through Ticketmaster.

President Emeritus

ULS bestows honorary title on Tech’s Reneau

The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System today named Daniel Reneau president emeritus of Louisiana Tech University. Reneau retired from Louisiana Tech in June after serving 46 years, including 26 years as president.
An emeritus position is one of the highest academic honors awarded to professors and administrators — usually on the occasion of their retirement. While campus presidents can bestow an emeritus title to a university employee, a president emeritus title must be recommended by the University of Louisiana System president and approved by the board.
