Ms. India Anne Reeveas

A graveside service for Ms. India Anne Reeveas, age 68 of Ruston, will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Ruston. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. India will be missed greatly and her memory cherished by her family and friends. Mrs. Reeveas was born on September, 16, 1945 and went home to the Lord on December 1, 2013. India is preceded in death by her Father Archie B. Dowdle Jr. and mother Claudia Anne Dowdle.She is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren.

Funeral services for Rev. Homer Vernon Bailes, age 91, of Ruston, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church in Ruston, LA. Officiating the service will be Rev. Hulen Warren. Committal service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Coulee Bethel Cemetery in Campti, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Rev. Bailes was born May 8, 1922 and passed away December 2, 2013, and is now reunited with his precious wife; Mary Margaret; and daughter; Mary who preceded him in death. Rev.

Pedestrian dead in 1-car crash in Grambling

A Houston woman was killed in what was originally believed to be a car crash with a deer.
At approximately 1 a.m. Monday, Grambling Police responded to the 7500 block of U.S.
Highway 80 in Grambling for an alleged vehicle crash with a deer. According to information from the GPD, Ebony Glover, 22, of the 100 block of Neal Street in Ruston, was eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 when she struck what she thought was a deer standing in the roadway.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the vehicle had actually struck a pedestrian.

Serving in the Korean War and teaching at Lincoln High School through segregation — Henry Island is a man who has seen the changing of the times.
“My experiences are unexplainable,” he said.
Island graduated from high school in 1951, and said the late Grambling State University head football coach Eddie Robinson recruited him to play football for GSU.

Ruston supports Amtrak extension

Ruston’s Board of Aldermen has endorsed a resolution supporting Amtrak passenger rail service through North Louisiana.
The board’s action Monday night adds the city to a growing list of municipalities, governmental entities and business groups supporting the return of train travel to the area.
“I think it’s one of the best things going,” Alderman Elmore Mayfield said.
Passenger service could be a tremendous economic boost to Ruston and Lincoln Parish, especially if the train made a local stop, Kristi Lumpkin, Ruston’s economic development administrator, said.
