Tech plans ‘Cyber-Monday’ hoops tickets sale

Louisiana Tech basketball fans have an opportunity for an early Christmas present as the athletic department is offering two separate ticket promotions which will go on sale starting Monday.
Fans can take advantage of the special one-day sales price on the Flex 10 Pack promotion on Cyber Monday.
On Monday only, fans can purchase the Flex 10 pack for the discounted price of only $99 (normally $125).
The Flex 10 Pack includes tickets to any 10 Tech home basketball games (men or women).

Phillips, Ford exchange vows

Corrie Allison Phillips and Dr. James Cody Ford were united in marriage at noon on Oct. 16.
The ceremony was held at Ely’s Mill in the Roaring Forks area of the Great Smoky Mountains, near Gatlinburg, Tenn.

The Rev. Jim Eastin performed the double ring ceremony in a secluded, wooded area beside a waterfall. Studio Benjamin, of Sevierville, Tenn., photographed the event. After the wedding, a formal dinner followed at The Lodge at Buckberry Creek in the Smoky Mountains.

Finding a new peace in life patterns

Last month, I talked about how we all have patterns and habits in our lives that need healing. I talked about the revelation I had about the need to move out of God’s way, so God could change my life pattern of cramming too much into a small amount of time, rushing around and being late.

Trips, visits with friends in the works

I lost November instead of December this year. When I got sick in Ruston last year and missed Christmas, I swore that would never happen again, so guess I got a jump on it this year and spent November in the hospital, and now I’m out and ready for Christmas.
I hope all you dear readers don’t abandon me because I’m old and have to get sick every winter.
Getting home from the hospital tonight, after bronchial pneumonia, I realized if I wrote my column now, I could meet my deadline, so here I am. I need to get my mind off my meds anyhow.

GSU gears up for ‘Super Bowl’

Bayou Classic game set to kick off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in New Orleans

The Grambling State Tigers look to put a big and positive end to one of their most negative season ever as they take on Southern University in the annual Bayou Classic Saturday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on NBC.
Grambling enters the game at 1-10 and 1-7 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, while Southern is 7-4 and 6-2.

Ruston to discuss proposal for passenger train push

Ruston’s Board of Aldermen is expected to decide Monday whether to lend support to a move to bring Amtrak passenger rail service to North Louisiana.
If aldermen adopt the resolution that Mayor Dan Hollingsworth is proposing, Ruston will join close to 50 other government and business entities across the top half of the state in pushing for a comeback of train travel.
Aldermen will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the new city courtroom on the first floor of City Hall.
