Wiggin’ Out tickets, sponsorships available

Tickets and sponsorships packages are now available for the Fourth Annual Wiggin’ Out Dinner and Gala set for Squire Creek Country Club while the Wiggin’ Out organization announced it has recently launched its new website.
The annual gala is the premiere event for the Wiggin’ Out organization, an entity that purchases wigs, lymphatic garments and prosthetic bras for those in North Louisiana unable to afford them.

Celebrating those who fight for freedom

Local resident JoAnne Bearden shared this wreath that honors her own grandsons, as well as other members of the military. Bearden has three grandsons in different branches of the service. Her grandson Richard A. Paxton has been in the U.S. Navy for 14 years, and is currently stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Another grandson, James Patrick Wood has been in the U.S. Army for 12 years, and is currently stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. He has served three years in the Iraqi/Afghanistan conflict and recently come home from a one-year deployment in Korea.

Caney Lake Good Sams Club News

There’s no place like home. So heeding hosts Cindi and Bill Austin and Pat and Joe Dickson’s advice, the Caney Lake Good Sammers took their “traveling home” out to Lincoln Parish Park for a “homecation.”
The Wednesday night sack supper began bringing the Caney Lake Good Sammers out to one of their favorite places for the May 21-24 campout.

Parish plans for Fourth of July

Temple Baptist Church’s 17th annual Patriotic Program “America: the Beautiful” is set for 7:30 p.m. today and Thursday in the sanctuary. The program will feature the Temple Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra, the Temple Men’s Chorus and a multimedia presentation. It will also honor local service men and women. Following Thursday’s presentation, the annual fireworks display will light up the sky.

Insurance rates cheap

Ruston ranked No. 2 in state

According to an independent study, Ruston has the second cheapest car insurance rates in Louisiana.
Value Penguin, a research company that focuses on providing objective resources to help consumers understand the topics in which they’re interested, Ruston only falls behind nearby Minden.
Ting Pen, co-founder and analyst at ValuePenguin.com, said the study was being conducted for all the states.

LPSB ups pay for workers

Wages for noncertifed employees to increase

The Lincoln Parish School Board approved a new skill level compensation plan for noncertified employees of the school district during the regular meeting Tuesday night.
“Sometimes its hard to replace a good employee,” Superintendent Danny Bell said. “We have a good benefits program even for noncertified employees, but for many noncertificated employees this is all new.”
The compensation plan will cost the district an additional $300,000 and will be given to employees in increments according to their longevity.

Fundraiser held for Boys and Girls

Louisiana Tech University’s football program recently hosted a car wash to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Louisiana.
The losers of the 2014 T-Day spring game were selected to host the fundraiser, which was at the Chevron Car Wash on Tech Drive.The athletes raised a total of $237 for the club.

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council has announced the winners of the 28th Annual Peach Art Exhibit. The winners are listed below by category and place.
For the Youth 9 and under category, honorable mentions go to “Starry Night Moon” by Ben Boudreaux, “Polka Dot Giraffe” by Mia St. John, “Aspens” by Rebekah Webb; third place to “Myself” by Susie Welsh; second place to “Thirsty Flowers” by Valerie Chatellier; first place to “A Messy Room” by Andy Lynn.

Celebrating men standing strong

Superintendent Thomas Kennedy, pastor of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, receives a gift from Terrie Queen Autrey, Domestic Abuse Resistance Team community advocate. Thomas recruited the most men for his team during DART’s First Men Standing Strong Campaign, ending with a team of 22 men who publicly declared their opposition to domestic violence. “In September, DART will begin to form the new teams for this exciting project,” said Autrey. “We believe that our group will increase significantly.”
