Sugar Bowl Classic trots into Lincoln Parish on Friday

They won’t be wearing jingle bells or dashing through the snow, but all kinds of horses will be strutting their stuff from Friday through Tuesday in Lincoln Parish.
The Sugar Bowl Classic Quarter/Palomino Show is set to be held on those days at the North Louisiana Exposition Center located at 189 Fairgrounds Road off of Louisiana Highway 33.
Potentially, events could be held in 148 different classifications if two or more horses sign up for each event. Show Organizer Tommie Jackson said more than 80 horse stalls had been rented before the Christmas holidays for the event.

Christmas card game ends badly

Man charged with attempt to strangle, stab family member

A Christmas Day card game went awry when a local man reportedly threatened a person with a knife and attempted to strangle the victim.
Bernardo Santiago, 55, of 161 Chesboro St., was arrested at approximately 2:07 a.m. Wednesday morning after a juvenile called 911. According to the arrest affidavit, Santiago became violent and threatened a person within the home during a card game.

Nominations for Russ Award due Jan. 13

Area residents have until Jan. 13 to submit nominations for the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce’s Robert E. Russ Award.
The annual award recognizes those who have contributed to the civic, business or cultural advancement or development of the area in an outstanding manner during the preceding year.
“We are blessed to live in such a giving community. We have wonderful citizens who give freely of their time and their dollars,” Chamber President Judy Copeland said. 
“Many of them do this without any expectations of recognition.
