’Cats preparing for spring game

Ruston High School’s Spring Football Game is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Fans will be able to enter on the east side of the stadium only. There will be a $5 admission with all proceeds being donated to the Rodney Guin Hospital Fund. Guin, the head football coach at Haughton High School, suffered a severe heart attack several weeks ago and is currently hospitalized at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

State Sports Hall of Fame receives increased support

As the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Weekend (June 19-21) quickly approaches, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation has announced that its corporate sponsor with the longest tenure, La Capitol Federal Credit Union, is back on board for 2014 with increased support of the Press Conference and Welcome Reception.
The Press Conference will be held for the first time in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum.

Giving back help to help St. Jude

Like children across the country — and even right here at home in Lincoln Parish — Josh Sanderson knows what it’s like to have your world turned upside down by cancer.
At only 3 years old, Sanderson was diagnosed with cancer and told that St. Jude Children’s Research hospital would be his best chance of survival.
“We immediately hit the road and got into Memphis in the middle of the night,” Sanderson said. “They were waiting there for us to come in. At 3 I didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation, but I knew that these people treated me and my family incredibly.”

LPPJ changes precincts, honors CFO

Jurors meet to reconsolidate polls, other committee items discussed

There were many items discussed during committee meetings and the regular session held by the Lincoln Parish Police Jury Tuesday.
The Public Property and Buildings Committee met first at 5:45 p.m. to approve a revised lease renewal or Aaron’s Rents, Inc. The jury approved a five-year lease renewal at a 10 percent increase for the company, setting the lease at $4.40 per square foot, per year.
Next up the Public Works Committee met at 6 p.m. to authorize a study concerning the drainage on Water Tank Road, which lies on the south side of Ruston near Jackson Parish.

Traffic redirected due to accident

According to the Ruston Fire Department an 18-wheeler overturned on Interstate 20 at approximately 1:35 a.m. today.
Eric Brazzel, RFD public education officer, said RFD/EMS responded with one ambulance and one rescue unit. He reported that persons involved in the accident were not injured and did not need transportation to a medical facility.
Officials helping to redirect traffic were Lincoln Parish Sheriff Office and Ruston Police Department.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Public Information Officer Albert Paxton said the driver was cited for careless operation.
