Tough times for long-storied GSU athletics

in
Davis, OK.jpg

The once proud stripes that adorned Grambling State that adorned the university’s athletics logo have taken a beating during the past year.
Inarguably — no, make that for sure — the worst school year for athletic success for thereof during the past year has left the Tiger Nation reeling over the past several months.
There’s been very little to cheer about.

EL PASO, Texas — UTEP’s offense threatened with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1 Conference-USA) held strong and defeated the Miners, 38-35, in a league match-up Saturday night at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.
The Bulldogs broke a five-game homecoming winning streak for the Miners and recreated a scene from 2003 when Tech defeated UTEP (1-4, 0-2 C-USA), 38-35, in the team’s homecoming game that year.

Season of futility continues for GSU

in
100613 GSU Chester Rogers C.jpg

It’s been that kind of season for the Grambling State Tigers.
What looked to be a close game on paper was anything but in reality as Prairie View A&M topped the Tigers 31-3 Saturday before a crowd of 27,745 in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
The numbers in the stat books were definitely deceiving in this one.
Grambling, now 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the SWAC, actually outgained Prairie View with 329 total yards, edging past the Panthers’ 327. GSU held the ball 31:55 compared to 28:05 for Prairie View.
