RJHS raises funds, awareness for breast cancer

Ruston Junior High School (RJHS) entered its third year of its Future Business Leaders of America organization with a membership of 19 students.
Serving as officers this year are: President Brandy Boyd, Vice President Joanna Ham, Secretary Molly Bertrand, Treasurer Jalia Payne, Reporter Kearia Wright, Historian Erykah Gant and Parliamentarian Drake Ward.

Downsville Charter School presents an Outstanding Citizenship Award to specially selected students as part of a program to find and reward those students who work hard at being good citizens at home, at school and in the community. Students are listed by academic achievement (minimum 3.0 grade point average) and grade level.

I.A.L. welcomes new partners, challenges

Our first nine-weeks has been a big success. Each department is collaborating to make sure the new Common Core Standards are implemented successfully. Most of our students have been upbeat and positive. We are looking forward to three more nine-week periods of great Ram Pride success.

SHS hosts ‘Speaking of Science’

Students in Chris Campbell’s science classes at Simsboro High School recently extended and enriched their learning through guest lecturers from Louisiana’s “Speaking of Science,” a science and engineering speakers’ bureau. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Board of Regents’ Louisiana Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, the SoS speakers are counted among the State’s finest teaching and research talent in the science and engineering disciplines.

Alcibee B. Tharp

Alcibee B. Tharp, 91, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at her home. Born in Choudrant, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Cledith and Alma Collie Butler. Alcibee was a nurse's aid before her retirement and she moved from North Little Rock, Arkansas to the Spring City community in 2005. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Association, the Sunshiner's in Arkansas and the Red Hat Club of Spring City. Alcibee was a member of the North Hills Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband James P.

Clyde M. Caver

Funeral services will be held for Clyde M. Caver, age 81, at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, October 25, 2013, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Bro. Randy
Ray and Bro. Don Woodard will officiate. The interment will follow at St. Rest Cemetery in Dubach, LA. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
